food-related / vegetarian meal plans

I’ve always been a big advocate of planning from what you have on hand instead of planning and THEN shopping. Admittedly, making this switch is a tough one. You have to build new shopping habits and learn to build a pantry that will support your vegetable stash. Luckily, most of our local CSAs here in Austin do a really good job of letting you know what to expect. It’s not foolproof. You might end up […]

stock up on summer spices | aneelee.wordpress.com

This is Savory Spice’s last weekend at the 6th Street location! They will be back, but it will take a couple of months for them to get up and running at their new Barton Creek Square Mall location so be sure to stop by and stock up. They’re open today through 6pm and will maintain their regular hours through the weekend (Saturday 9:30am-6pm, Sunday 11am-5pm). Also of note – their gift boxes are 50% off while supplies […]

A quick run-down of what we got in the box today: basil, parsley, eggplant, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, peppers, assortment of hot peppers, yellow squash, zucchini, other summer squash, cucumbers, pickling cucumbers, green beans, onions and a melon. I am excited because I can see so many lovely meals coming together – grilled peppers and squash, salsa, eggplant lasagna, tomato & mozzarella sandwiches, etc. Icing on the cake? No greens to wash! I am grateful that […]

We took a break for six months last year to see how our budget would fare if we tried to shop in season at our local grocery […]
