turning eight

raindrops on roses

My daughter is turning eight in a little under a week and I am doing my best to not get all fluttery about how overwhelmingly BIG she is getting. Her summers are usually set aside for easing into her new, older skin. This particular summer’s transformation is, by far, the most drastic that we have experienced to date though. She’s morphing into an older girl – more private, more independent and more aware of what she wants time for. But… she is still very much herself and, for that, I am thankful.

She had a small celebration with some of her closest friends over the weekend. She was beaming by the end of it all, having danced and sung to the Sound of Music in addition to making ice cream and eating cake.

Good luck to all the mamas and papas out there as they get their broods off to school. Thinking about you all.
