cooking in season

I was fortunate enough to take part in a wonderful canning party this weekend that Kate Payne and Stephanie McClenny pulled together for Canning Across America’s National Can-It-Forward Day.  So grateful to have such wonderful women in the community willing to share their knowledge (and kitchens) to help people like me take on things that are still a little scary. We made pickled okra, lemon-sage wine mustard and peach-ginger jam. I am slowly chiseling away […]

My days of winging it are beginning to wear on our stomachs and pocketbook so something must change. Also of note is that my husband is now working from home full-time and I really need to start accounting for what will be eaten, AT HOME, for lunch so that I have enough food around for the whole week. Saturday Breakfast – Oatmeal Buttermilk Pancakes with Fresh Berries Late Lunch – Chickpea “Chicken” Salad Sandwiches Dinner […]

We are finally spending weekends at home regrouping, replenishing and cooking. Up until now, weekends had been a mad and furious dash with famished tummies wandering about in a car in the dark in hopes of finding food. If I learned anything this summer it is these two things – (1) bread-baking is a no-no in the Texas heat and (2) okra is not my friend. Nevertheless, it has made its way into my CSA box this week. Any takers? I think I’ve given up. Rest of the box’s contents below: Arugula (I love it when people call them roquettes, sounds more fun) Bok Choy Fall Tomatoes Butternut Squash Zucchini Yellow Squash Sweet […]
