meal plan delayed
Trying not to fret too much about my lack of a meal plan. We shall eat and… we shall have a well-stocked pantry by the end of tomorrow. đ

MoreThere are always at least a couple of weeks during the summer growing season that completely overwhelm me. I am smack dab in the middle of it right now. Wish me luck!
MoreConfession: I have been buying fermented pickles for well over a year (maybe two) and swapping for them whenever possible. Once the household got a hold of fermented pickles, there was no turning back. Vinegar-brined pickles have not cut it since. I hadn’t gotten up the nerve to make my own yet. The process is […]
MoreThe weather around here has been strange (and unwelcomed, quite frankly), but our local vegetable stash is doing its best to shake it all off. Summer is here and I am cooking with it every day. We have produce in every nook and cranny of the house, so a week of cooking for meals now […]
MoreThe bags were h-e-a-v-y today: eggplant, beets, potatoes, onions, basil celeriac tops, pickling cukes, slicing cukes, okra, tomatoes (grape and slicers), serranos, carrots, green bell peppers, and squash variety.
MoreHe has requested noodle-y things, Mexican breakfasts, a nicoise-style salad (minus tuna), and lots of downtime. I think we can comply.
MoreI think it was about a year (or two) ago that I began to do embrace weekend meal prep on the regular. Getting all my legumes & grains cooked, sauces and dressings prepared, and portioning up a batch of stew makes the week go down so much easier. Admittedly, this sometimes cuts out valuable kitchen […]
MoreGuys, I need a whole new game plan to get us through the summer. My usual breakfast-lunch-dinner framework is not working. The 11yo has an insatiable appetite. She is hungry and scrounging around the kitchen for more food within 30-minutes of a meal and I simply can not keep up. I stocked the kitchen with […]
More… with a summer lunch of grilled corn, 3-tomato soup, tomato-mozzarella-olive salad & quinoa bites.
MoreSummer break has officially started and so have the 11yo’s perpetual hunger pangs. We have huge stacks of books to get through (doing our first mother-daughter book club). We have meals to cook together (self sufficiency in the kitchen is summer goal #2). And we have lots of side-by-side working sessions ahead of us (âcause […]
MoreBursting with summer it was today… said Yoda. We have leeks, beets, parsley, green beans(!!) serranos, greenish tomatoes, carrots, potatoes, red onions, red cabbage, kale, fennel, and cucumbers!
MoreIt’s been all crickets here for the past few weeks and I don’t see that changing much until I get some breathing room in my days. Summer is what I have my sights set on. Until then please feel free to gander at my musings, Â links, kitchen adventures, and ramblings on Twitter and Instagram. I’ll […]
MoreAfter almost a full year in the house, it is time to do some rearranging in the kitchen. We’ve figured out where our paths bump in the mornings and I have a better sense of what that kitchen demands season to season. The coffee counter, canning supplies, pantry, and cutting boards are getting a shuffle […]
MoreI’ve been warming up to the #tomatolandia sprint that is coming up at month’s end with small batches of fruit preserves. Made a beautiful batch of loquat jam today and am moving on to dewberries next. Have you started putting up spring produce?
MoreJust a quick hello. I haven’t put a meal plan up in a couple of weeks because I am mostly working from my repertoire of old classics. You can find an archive of my spring meal plans here. I’ll get something fresh and exciting up as soon as I get my bearings.
MoreStill have lots of leafy green things! First week of May looks like… kale, mixed greens, romaine, spinach, carrots, broccoli, beets, spring onions (red), radishes, cilantro, kohlrabi, leeks.
MorePicked what I hope is my first of many batches today. Neighbor said that in his 40 years in the neighborhood, no one has ever asked about picking. What?!? As far as he knows, the squirrels and birds have been feasting at springtime for years. It is a HUGE tree and I have been granted […]
MoreRoasting tomatoes. Caramelizing onions. Baking her favorite mac-n-cheese.
MoreThings have been a little quiet on the blog because we have been very busy getting the 11yo ready for her first trip sans parentals. There has been lots of practice and more lists than you could probably imagine, but all that work has paid off. She is stoked! Her adults are at varying levels of nervousness […]
