not my proudest food day
I have cooked nothing. We did manage to eat all of the following – cheesy pasta, cheesy bread, donuts, and pizza. Tomorrow’s vegetables already taste good.

MoreA drawer for all my lunch-packing essentials is a real sanity saver once the school year kicks in. If you don’t have an entire drawer to spare, try finding a spot for a small basket or container that will corral everything and make yourself a little lunch-packing zone. I am a strong believer in having your […]
MoreSwitching to shelf-stable pickles ’til we eat our way through all the fermented stashes in the fridge.
MoreThe 11yo starts middle school on Friday, so we are officially in reset mode. That means practicing portion control for packed lunches, getting up and being dressed (and fed) by 8am, and having a dinner plan in place for *most* nights. This is no small task if you take into consideration how slammed we have […]
MoreI see pix of tomatoes and berries in far away (mythical) places, but in Central Texas we are deep in the okra, pepper, and eggplant groove. This week’s CSA stash consisted of okra, zucchini, eggplant, lots of carrots, cucumbers, beets, radishes (my favorites!), basil, potatoes, jalapeños, and cantaloupes! Good batch of veg to kick off […]
MoreUPDATE: Our daughter is approaching her 14th birthday in a couple of weeks. School and the morning routines that come with are completely different now that we are homeschooling, but these containers are still holding up! We still use them at least 3-4 times a week to pack large snacks (and lunch) for study sessions […]
MoreWe’ve been peanut-free for years, but nut-free is gonna be a HUGE adjustment. Pesto, coconut, pecans, almond butter, nutty breads… these are gonna be tough to pull from regular rotation. Wish me luck!
MoreI went back down to a medium size box from the large to cut back on my preserving duty week to week. Happy with the size of today’s stash – eggplant, pickling cucumbers, slicing cucumbers, carrots, zucchini, potatoes, tomatoes, basil, arugula, cantaloupe, okra, poblanos.
MoreBusy weekend is making for a busy start to the week without much stocked. I’ll lean on beans and rice and tacos until I get my bearings. Have a great week!
MoreSummer’s halfway point is here! I am ignoring all the back to school sales (mostly) and gonna try my best to enjoy these last few weeks of summer with the 11yo. I have lots of canning to take care of this week so meals are easy peasy. Quick breakdown of what I have planned below: […]
Moretomatoes, cukes, pickling cukes, beets, potatoes, celery root (!!), zucchini, eggplant, korean melon, okra, habaneros, serranos, greens, cabbage
MoreNot sure how we landed on Friday AM so suddenly, but here it is nonetheless. Have CSA to stash away this weekend and what may be my last bulk order of tomatoes. What are you up to?
MoreI promised to check back in with some progress and here she goes. My first jar of fermented dill pickles smells divine, and is absolutely beautiful. All signs point to this being a fermenting household moving forward. Will have to figure out fridge space for this new pickle direction ASAP.
MoreLast week kicked our butts, but we survived and even managed to squeeze in some quality time with my mama. Meal plans help me get my bearings in the kitchen and, in turn, the time in the kitchen helps ground me altogether. Lots of food to put up, a recipe coming later this week, and […]
MoreFull week ahead of us and we are down to a nearly-bare fridge. Lots to figure out and plan in the kitchen tomorrow.
MoreOkra, poblanos, jalapeños, green tomatoes, red cabbage, beets, carrots, onions, zucchini, slicing cucumbers, pickling cucumbers, and eggplant.
MoreTrying not to fret too much about my lack of a meal plan. We shall eat and… we shall have a well-stocked pantry by the end of tomorrow. 🙂
