this week's csa box: romaine, kale, dandelion greens, cilantro, beets, radishes, turnips, carrots, spring onions
sunshine acquired
I am that person that walks in the shade all summer, hugging the ones cast by buildings and hopping beneath every tree canopy possible to avoid the hot hot sun. But man oh man! This has been such a grey winter and I didn’t realize how sun-starved I’ve been until today. Got out into the […]
Morexmas eve eve CSA
Took a little bit of chasing, but I found my CSA box downtown today! Ended up with: beets, fennel, carrots, kale, spinach, collards, watermelon radishes, cabbage, cauliflower, cilantro and lots of citrus.
Morecsa stash – nov 25
Adjusting to the quantities in my medium box and trying to figure out how many meals this will get me through. In today’s box: beets, carrots, broccoli, radishes, fennel, parsley, salad mix, kale, and spinach. Also still working my way through a ginormous stash of butternut and sweet potato.
Morewhat’s for dinner – week 46
Trying out a few more recipes from the Melissa Clark’s book (for lunch) and sticking to some of my staples dinners so I don’t have to fuss with recipes. M: Frijoles Rancheros + Veggie Fajitas T: Big Salads + Caci de Pepe W: Empanadas T: Leftovers F: Dinner out P.S. I got my CSA this […]
Morebaking week
Traditions and an upcoming bake sale means we have a week of lots of desserts – birthday cake (for him), birthday pie (to celebrate same birthday at work) and mini-cakes for next weekend’s Austin Bakes. Still working out particulars, but more to come…
Morevegetarian meal ideas (early fall)
Happy to report that I am carving time out for the kitchen again! Our collective bellies are better for it and my brain is grateful for the productive downtime. I cook to get food on the table (of course), but the act of feeding and focused purpose really, really helps me get out of my […]
Moremeal plan – august 14, 2017
Happy middle of August, everyone! My CSA stash is screaming Texas summer this week – okra, eggplant, peppers, squash – so the bulk of my meals will focus on using all that up. Potatoes and carrots and beets will work their way in as snacks or hold up in storage for use next week. I […]
Moregetting ahead of your CSA pickup
I’ve always been a big advocate of planning from what you have on hand instead of planning and THEN shopping. Admittedly, making this switch is a tough one. You have to build new shopping habits and learn to build a pantry that will support your vegetable stash. Luckily, most of our local CSAs here in […]
Morewhat’s cooking – week 9
Not gonna jinx anything by declaring that I am back (at least not with an exclamation mark), but it does feel good to be getting back into a rhythm with the blog. Picked up a few things at the grocery store to get us through our next CSA pickup on Saturday. Breakfast Having our usual, […]
Moremeal plan – week 8
Spring has crept into Austin really early. I’m relieved to have the worst of the cold behind us, but admittedly nervous about what 80º days in February means for July and August. This meal plan may not be in time to plan the bulk of your Week 8, but hoping that you guys can pull some […]
