lunch-packing drawer

A drawer for all my lunch-packing essentials is a real sanity saver once the school year kicks in. If you don’t have an entire drawer to spare, try finding a spot for a small basket or container that will corral everything and make yourself a little lunch-packing zone. I am a strong believer in having your insides match your outsides and this philosophy definitely carries over into my kitchen. Clearing out and re-prioritizing this space is one […]

what we pack lunches in… still

UPDATE: Our daughter is approaching her 14th birthday in a couple of weeks. School and the morning routines that come with are completely different now that we are homeschooling, but these containers are still holding up! We still use them at least 3-4 times a week to pack large snacks (and lunch) for study sessions and busy afternoons spent away from home.   We don’t have long supply lists at the beginning of the school […]

week one wrapped | aneelee.wordpress.com

We will march happily into the weekend with both the first week of school and a HUGE milestone for the girl under her belt. I am feeling really grounded after dipping my toes in a solid dose of routine this week as well. Lunches were packed. Cakes were made . Meal plans were executed and I even managed a quick recipe post for that vegetable that everyone hates. All without going batty and sleepless! 😉 My mom […]

vegetarian meal plans

Ready, set, go! Gonna take it a day at a time and meal by meal instead of the go-with-the-flow lists that have been the standard this summer. Birthday Number 10 is going to be the most challenging to pull off. Hoping to get some ingredients (pate brisee & quinoa) into the fridge tonight to make Tuesday run a little more smoothly. The rest of our dinners are quick cooks and assemble-n-eat meals. Monday Breakfast – […]

weekend cooking | aneelee.wordpress.com

This weekend has been about stocking the kitchen. She starts school and we are bidding farewell to our summer work schedule. No more 10am breakfast starts. No more makeshift work laps around town. I can work at my desk if I want to! It’s been a whole 3 months since I’ve had to deal with regular meal times, so I felt like I had to get ready. I am depending on the remainder of the […]

my lunch-packing mantra

my lunch-packing mantra | aneelee.wordpress.com

My goal is an empty lunch box… every day. Half-eaten lunches make for wilted, grumpy kids at pick-up and that stuff is contagious. Not fun. These are the few things that I whisper to myself as I pack her lunch in the morning in hopes of avoiding the grumpiness: Stick to liked items. Yup. This is probably the hardest one for me. I always want to explore new possibilities, so I’ll want to pack that […]

The 9yo starts an outdoor summer camp tomorrow that will be thrusting us all back into morning realities a full two weeks before school starts. Yikes! So… instead of sitting down tonight and thoughtfully planning out my week of meals, I had to make sure that the kitchen was ready for a solid breakfast (at a decent hour) and full lunch with snack. – Containers? Check. – Chilled Thermos? Check. – Insulated water jug? Check. […]

The 8yo turns nine today and, thanks to staggered start dates at her school, we don’t have to rush her off into someone else’s hands on her birthday. She had a pre-visit last week and has since put on her planning hat to make sure that all would be in order for her first few days of 4th grade… including her lunches. Yes, I let her put together a menu for her first few days […]

Not sure what happened to our summer this year. We’ve been busy, busy, busy. There has been more work than in summers past (for me anyways) and squeezing in fun for the 8yo has meant finding time in the evening to get stuff done. Even the weekends have been packed and we are all a little worn out.
