Geez. How did we get here? An eleven-year-old that fits in my shoes and no longer likes wearing bright colors is not something that you plan for… it kinda just sneaks up on you. I probably feel this way every year, but this age is the best. She is eager to “get bigger” but not quite ready to let go of the toys in her room or the stuffed animals on her bed. Her confidence […]
It is official. Everyone in the house is in varying stages of sick. He went down over the weekend with flu-like symptoms and, if his appetite is any indication, seems to be on the mend. She was running a fever yesterday and can’t seem to taste anything. And I… well no flu-like symptoms, but my body and respiratory system are acutely aware of the re-emergence of cedar in the Austin air. Oosh. Meal plan is […]
We are home! Much, much more to follow on our adventures in Merida, a place that I have come to associate with family, awesome food and the beaches from my childhood. For now, we are relishing all the simple pleasures that home offers and are taking in some serious R&R. Have a great Thanksgiving break with your families and see you soon!
It is no secret that I relish my trips to the farmers’ market. Even as a kid in Dallas, they were a regular occurrence on Saturday mornings. They were sooooo […]
Long weekends and breaks at this time of year make me crave summer. I miss spending time with the 9yo and I am ready for school to give her back. We have Science Fair and recitals and soccer games and all of that busy to get through, but in 9 weeks she is all mine. I’m gonna take it easy in the kitchen this week… keeping things simple so I can soak in every minute […]
Packed her a special Valentine’s Day lunch this morning – heart shaped ravioli, field roast slice, cauliflower, carrots, parmesan popcorn and carefully sectioned grapefruit. It’s a bit lighter than usual, but I suspect there will be lots of celebratory food in her classroom this morning. Hope you have a great Valentine’s Day with your friends, family and loved ones. Eat yummy stuff together!
The hands in this picture are about six years old. It is these little hands and all that they have made in the three years since that have been incessantly on my mind since Friday. So… no meal plans, no recipes, no cute anecdotes that turn all the heavy into digestible food-related moments. All I have is this wonderful thought from a childhood idol that I came across earlier today: “When I was a boy […]
