The 11yo starts middle school on Friday, so we are officially in reset mode. That means practicing portion control for packed lunches, getting up and being dressed (and fed) by 8am, and having a dinner plan in place for *most* nights. This is no small task if you take into consideration how slammed we have been with work and how much I have relied on eating out the past couple of weeks. Today was a […]
The sick has got the energy in the house on mute. Naps, audiobooks, podcasts, music, and a fair share of video streaming are going in everyone’s respective corners. We seem to have survived the weekend, but there is much to catch up on and I suspect the 11yo has at least a couple of more days of watch she disparagingly refers to as “sick activities” before she can get back to normal. Good news is […]
The temperature is plummeting as I type this post and we are just a *wee bit* miffed about it. 30º may not seem like a big deal in February too most, but this is Central Texas and it was in the 70s just a couple of days ago. Stomps feet. Will be warming the house with lots of soups and baking this week: Meals Potato Soup with Pesto* | Mixed Greens with Grapefruit Vinaigrette Ginger […]
I had a full day of meal prep yesterday, so I am stoked (and stocked) for the week. Also managed to have quite a bit of fun on Instagram yesterday in the middle of it all. Seemed like lots of folks were cooking and getting ready for the week so I was able to find some inspiration for last night’s dinner and the week’s meals. You can find me @thereal_aneelee if you want to take […]
I ended up with a little more variety than originally expected, but we seem to have eaten through way more of our veggies last week than I planned. I picked up a few extra things – cauliflower and an acorn squash from the grocery store to help. I am also trying a completely new (to me) bean this week – the mayocoba. Trying to find my 2015 work-home rhythm so everything else is pretty regular. […]
School, work, and the routines that come with it all are long overdue. Mornings may be a little rough after weeks of serving breakfast near-10am, but the rest of it should fall into place. Hope you have an easy week back and that you find a little seasonal inspiration for your meatless meals in my week’s plan.
Only a few more weeks until the new year! We have business as usual around here (work, school, eating, and all the in between). I am pretty excited to cook from my weekend’s library find – Vegetable Literacy by Deborah Madison. I am very pleased with its simple recipes and flavor pairings and am going to make the most of my 3-week borrow window. I instantly spotted quick fixes for my CSA stash and can’t wait to […]
It is Thanksgiving week and we are breaking up our veggie routine by giving a new local CSA program a whirl. I love the flexibility that picking up my CSA at Johnson’s Backyard Garden at the market offers, but I figured it was time to give someone else a shot. That someone else is Farmhouse Delivery. What came in our box – Collards, Carrots, Turnips, Butter Lettuce, Oranges, Apples, Green Beans, Broccoli, Sweet Potatoes (Photo: […]
Greetings from an unusually cold Austin! I had grand plans to get my week of meals kickstarted over the weekend, but something had me feeling icky. There were some germs in the vicinity so it was collectively decided that I should not be in charge of any food prep with potentially germ-ridden hands. Feeling way better now, so I am hoping (kinda sorta) that it was *just* allergies Anywho… food for this week is very much on […]
It’s Halloween week which also means that it’s the week before his birthday so we are running in a few different directions. Quick list of the quick meals that I have in mind for the week.
