weekly menu
comida mexicana all week
We had to skip our CSA pickup this past weekend and I have not had time to hit one of the other local markets since, so the fresh veggie contingent in our house has been reduced to the handful of staples that are essential to a Mexican kitchen – tomatoes, onions, cilantro, potatoes, and chiles. […]
Morevegetarian meal plan – january 21, 2013
Just last week I was going on and on (and on) about how much I LOVE the short winters here. Scarves and warming the house with the oven and boots and snuggling under warm blankets. Oh well… all I can hope for now is that the weather outside is short-lived because I am not ready […]
Moremeal plan – july 14, 2012
Saturday is when I tend to have time to think through what to eat in the coming days and subsequent week. I bust out the vegetarian cookbooks, visit the downtown library stacks for inspiration and check out what is buried in my Evernote stash of bookmarked recipes. I also try to keep my actual calendar […]
Moremeal plan | september 7, 2011
My plans for a quiche and soup dinner last week were squashed by the heat, but I think that we may be nearing more seasonally appropriate temperatures (for Central Texas ayways) so I shall forge ahead with more plans for hearty meals and a couple that even require the oven. Dinner: Split Pea Soup | […]
Moremeal plan | july 25, 2011
Craving lots of my mama’s food this week so I’m throwing in the Seitan con Papas and Tamales for a bit of home with a vegetarian twist. I’ve only planned through Friday, but am hoping to get some inspiration for those meals as the week progresses. Monday Breakfast: Tacos! Packed Lunch: Leftover Black Bean Veggie […]
Moremeal plan | week of july 11, 2011
We have seven weeks left of our summer break which means that it is time for me to step it up. I have ingredients for a full seven meals on hand right now and I am hoping that I can crank through it all by the middle of next week (at the latest) and have lots of leftovers on hand for lunches. Also hoping that I can whip my breakfast planning back into shape.
Morereeling it back in | meal plan | june 14, 2011
I am going to spend the next couple of months wrangling our food expenses back down to a reasonable place. Feels like our food budgets have been spiraling out of control with lots of extra trips to the grocery store and more instance of food-gone-bad than I care to admit. ¡No mas! I am buying […]
Moreon making real meals | menu – friday, may 20
I don’t know what is up with me in the kitchen. A few nights ago it was horchata. Before that muffins. And tonight? Tonight, I made watermelon popsicles. They were really delicious but world’s away from what the fam really needed – dinner. I need to do something semi-drastic to knock me out of this […]
Moremenu – may 6, 2011
My days of winging it are beginning to wear on our stomachs and pocketbook so something must change. Also of note is that my husband is now working from home full-time and I really need to start accounting for what will be eaten, AT HOME, for lunch so that I have enough food around for […]
Moreback home | no meal plan | may 4, 2011
We are finally back home! It’ll come as no surprise that I don’t really have a plan to get us through the rest of the week. I’ll be heading out to the grocery store a little bit later to make sure we have bare essentials. I’m thinking it’ll be a couple of days of rice […]
Morecoasting through to summer | menu – april 25
Is anyone else as relieved as I am to finally be getting April behind us? I’m looking forward to May and the “coast through to summer” mode that takes over – lazy afternoon’s at home, quick dips at Stacy Pool, kite flying and books. Only thing that we have going on this week beyond school […]
Morewinging it | no meal plan | april 11, 2011
We’ve got a really busy week ahead of us and some unexpected hiccups that mean my husband will be out of town for a few days. My daughter and I do lots of snackage and quick meals involving noodles when he’s not here. It’s easy enough to wing and the last thing I want deal […]
